LBYRINTH, 1986, is the type of movie one really loves or hates. There's hardly any ground in between. PERHAPS! An alternate amazing title could have been Sarah's Adventures in the Labyrinth. This journey into a world of fantasy much like the one Alice took seems to have become part of the consciousness of all who lived in that era. No question it is a film quite revered. The plot is escapist fun! Very little need be said of it except that one girl's wish comes true, as real as Alice going down the Rabbit Hole. Jennifer Connelly is so fresh and young and you are able to tell she would one day be an Oscar Winner. David Bowie is rather stiff as he was in most of his films. Let's face it! He's a singer, not an actor! Yet he had some limelight in the film world, his 15 minutes of fame, as it were, even with his questionable acting skills. It's pretty neat inhabiting this new world of bizarre characters if that is your BENT. For me, I can take it or leave it. I don't have the reverence for this film that most have. Besides I was NEVER a Bowie fan so he moves me in NO WAY. If you are really interested in the young Bowie you should see MERRY CHRISTMAS, Mr. LAURENCE, probably his best film. But it all boils down to the fact that like today's HOBBIT films, adventures in any kind of wonderland simply don't interest me much. I'll give it a very generous 6.
