    The Maltese Falcon

You can't get much better than Bogie in his first really big winner, plus the miraculous Academy Award winning Mary Astor as a pretty seamy character, to say the least... and don't forget there's Peter Looe and Sydney Greenstreet who make things come to life all the more. The studio system was WHAT IT WAS, warts and all, but, damn, they made thousands upon thousands of unforgettable films. This film by John Huston, his directorial debut is a must for anyone even remotely interested in "film noir" or any film on the cusp of "film noir." Nothing like the beauty of seeing a great film in gorgeous B+W on the big silver screen!
