    The Southerner

The Southerner from the immortal Jean Renoir is an English language film direction that earned the Frenchman an Oscar Nomination as Best Director of 1945. Renoir did not work with a very famous cast by Hollywood standards, but the film is a gem that never lets go of your heart. Its main stars are Zachary Scott and the sublime, under-rated Betty Field in a superb role. If you know Hollywood history, the supporting players become a who's who in Hollywood history.
