First off, this movie only earns a 6 in my books because of the fantastic visuals that even justify the expense of 3D that really is put to good use. One more thing positive I could throw in is that the plot itself is quite decent. However, and here I could go on forever, the script is terrible, lending itself to make the acting even appear worse than it was inevitably going to be with Shia at the helm co-starring with a super model rather than an actual actress. Also, casting her appeared more a childish response to show up Megan Fox than a professional decision to make the movie better. Seriously? Are there no other actual 'actresses' pretty enough to fill Megan Fox's shorts? Even actors like Patrick Dempsey and John Malkovich looked silly working with this script, let alone a lingerie model by trade. Finally, the movie is epic long, something that prompted me an hour into the movie to go get nourishment so that I may survive to the end, the food more to pacify me during scenes with actors gazing longingly into each others' eyes while they exchange sentiments as deep as what you may expect from seniors at the elementary school ground. Two and a half hours was far too long for this movie considering you could have gotten rid of about 40 minutes of these meaningless scenes. Still spectacular visuals where destruction of public and private property are concerned and on that front Michael Bay does make the movie something worth watching despite its many obvious warts.
