I wanted to like this movie but I found that it wouldn't let me. After a long discussion over a beer with Mr. Laverneus Roker, it came to our attention that there were a lot of extraneous elements in this movie that were cheating the audience. It also came to our attention that had the waitress offered us another beer during our meal, we would have had another one and her tip would have been a little larger. Anyway back to the movie... At the beginning there is a scene that encompasses time lapse photography that is included for "Eye Candy" but really has no purpose. This also reappears at the end. There are also scenes that use toilet humor for no other reason than trying to elicit a cheap laugh out of the audience. The use of the Voir Dire effect (the screenplay within the screenplay) is kind of interesting but the liberal use of Dues Ex Machina really had me wondering about this film. (This was foreshadowed in a scene in the Movie) I'll let you figure it out. Cage was pretty good in his roles. I especially like the voice overs and his character's fantastic self loathing. Why is Meryl Streep in this film? Why is she attempting a comeback? Does anyone really like her? She is so overrated, this has me perplexed. I can't wholeheartedly recommend this film, unless you are bored, sitting at home and watching "Wheel of Fortune" on cheap movie night.
