I was looking foreword to After Earth. Although the premise wasn't so unique, it had good actors, and looked promising. The only problem I had with the film, was the director. M. Night Shyamalan is, in my opinion, a horrible director. From directing The Last Airbender, I was scared that this movie would turn out the same way. Thankfully, it didn't, and this movie was a ton of fun! THE ACTING: As always, Will Smith was fantastic. His character was very well played, and was basically flawless. His son, Jaden Smith, on the other hand, was alright. His voiceover at the beginning was horrible and his acting was pretty good. Because these are the two only actors, that's all I could say. 8/10 THE CINEMATOGRAPHY/SPECIAL EFFECTS: Wow... This movie was breathtaking. Like Oblivion and Star Trek, this movie's cinematography was out of this world! The effects and CGI were very well done, and maybe even deserve an Oscar nod. 10/10 STORY/WRITING: The pace was very fast, and the plot was well formatted. The dialogue, however, was only decent. It felt cheesy, and somewhat under written. The story was very good, with decent twists and fun adventurous moments. 8/10 OVERALL: A really fun movie that is definitely worth seeing. The best thing Shyamalan has done since The Sixth Sense! RATING: 8/10.
