This movie deals with the complex subject of Bisexuality, the LGBT community, self-identity and the likes. Trying to find yourself amidst a very conservative upbringing is certainly not an easy feat for Shirin considering her tendencies. The fact that Desiree Akhavan is both the writer and the lead actress tells me there is probably a story there she wanted to be told and because of the nature of the sexually explicit scenes and the really true to character acting, I doubt many individuals could have made this part any more convincing than her. Her performance was just perfectly in sync with the story, dialogue, etc. it didn't feel like acting at all. In fact, everyone in the movie was well cast. From the parents, to the girlfriends to the brother to the lovers, everything felt genuine. That was certainly no easy feat considering the variety of characters the movie deals with. This movie is rated R all the way through so I wouldn't let your children watch it at all. It is very sexually explicit, much more than any other movie I have seen in a long time. That being said, everything in it is appropriate to the story and just adds to its credibility. An incredible work of storytelling which I can only commend the writer, director and everyone else involved for.
