This film has some redeeming qualities. The setting and location shots are incredible. The filmmakers managed to make Long Beach, NY look like Bosnia. As I have never visited Long Beach, I wonder whether the urban rot has actually progressed to the state as portrayed in the Film. If it has, it's a shame as the former Casino's and Boardwalks must have been quite a splendor back in the 1920's or 1930's. It looks like this City would be a cool place to live if they could clean up the needles and hospital waste that probably washes up on its beaches. I'd also llike to comment that a 1970's vintage bondo laden Chevy Nova would never command $1000 US dollars on the streets of any neighborhood. I really enjoyed Francis McDormand in this film, she is a great actress if anyone has ever seen her in "Fargo". She also proves that a woman in her 40's can indeed be very sexy. I just don't understand how her character would get involved with the haggard, life weary, in need of a haircut character played by Deniro in this film. Deniro again proves he can play Deniro playing Deniro as a cop, but I'd rather see him as Travis Bickle or as Max Cady in the 1991 film "Cape Fear". I'm sick and tired of seeing him as a cop or a gangster. This story would have been better served as a one hour long episode of any Crime series you've ever seen on TV. I give it 3 chili dogs. Rent this puppy.
