Cold Mountain

Sad movie capturing the best and the worst in people during the devastation of war. Minghella created an award winning film which will surely be nominated for an academy award. The choice of cast was truly excellent. Actors did a very persuasive job at going through every emotion, experiencing grueling misery thru famine, showing the bravery of women having to take over all duties while their men were gone. Most scenes were shot in the cold outdoors in the snow in Romania. Kidman is truly beautiful looking so feminine with that intelligent look and yet innocent almost childish expression in her eyes and mouth. Renee Zellweger is a very accomplished and versatile actress playing next to Kidman as the rough and tough character abandonned as a child. She did a great job at imitating the southern accent for her role. In the film Kidman is a well bred lady and Law is a simple man but they experience a moment of true passion which turns into a deep longing for love worth waiting for. Law's role was played to excellence and must have been physically exhausting. Both go through hell trying to keep alive in the hope of getting together one day to continue what was started but was suddenly cut short by the declaration of war. War keeps them apart too long. You feel how senseless and destructive war is and wonder why men feel it must happen to make changes. One may ask... could results ever come without war... could words eventually work as opposed to war? The experience of war and all its sufferings is supposed to teach us something, but you realize that men never learn anything through history. You leave the theatre feeling sad but the cinematography of this film was top quality..
