Godzilla (2014) looked like a masterpiece from its superb trailers. When I won tickets to see this film early in IMAX 3D, I freaked out. After seeing it, I can tell you that I was not disappointed at all and Godzilla is one of the best disaster movies I've ever seen. I'm not going to get into the story because I don't want to spoil anything. All I'll say is that it's pretty fantastic and isn't at all what you'd expect. The special effects were utterly amazing and looked incredibly realistic. I was actually surprised on how amazing this movie looked. Gareth Edwards is a director to look out for, because he does a pretty freaking unbelievable job with this film. There are some shots and scenes that were just fantastic. Also, once again, Alexandre Desplat made an incredible score. There were a few problems with this otherwise amazing movie. The first one would have to be the acting. Other than Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olson, the acting in this movie was corny and quite awful sometimes. Aaron-Taylor Johnson did a bland job as the leading character and the kid who played his son was horrible. There were a few subplots that got tedious and boring after a while. Finally, there wasn't enough Godzilla for a movie called Godzilla. I would have liked to have seen more scenes that were teased. Overall, Godzilla is an incredible disaster film that lives up to expectations. Although there are a few noticeable problems, this movie is worth seeing on the big screen and in 3D! RATING: 9/10.
