Click here to show this review. Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, was one of my most anticipated movies of the year. With amazing actors, a simple yet interesting story, and beautiful cinematography, this movie looked to be excellent. Well, it was more than excellent. Gravity is one of the best movies of the year, and one of the best movies ever set in space. STORY/WRITING: The story is simple: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are stranded in space after an accident with no communication with NASA. But there is much more to it than that. The story is complex, with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat with your heart beating 10x faster than it should. The suspense is held throughout a huge part of this movie. It is very well written, with thought provoking dialogue and realistic scenes that were very well done. The only real issue I had, which is a personal thing, is how the story seems too simple from the trailers. 9.5/10 ACTING: Sandra Bullock is Oscar worthy in her role as Ryan Stone, an astronaut on her first time in space. Her character had layers, which were unfolded during not only dialogue scenes, but also in action. George Clooney was also very good as his calmer, funnier character. 10/10 CINEMATOGRAPHY/SPECIAL EFFECTS: Oh my God. I can't even put it into words how breathtaking the cinematography in this film is. Wow. Wow. Wow. The space scenes are so real, and so detailed. The action sequences are intense, and use some of the best special effects I've ever seen. SEE IT IN IMAX 3D! You won't ever regret it. This is the first time I've ever done this, but the cinematography and special effects in Gravity get: 11/10 OVERALL: Gravity is not only one of the best films of the year, but is also a true cinematic experience. Gravity is a spectacular masterpiece that you should see on IMAX 3D! If you don't, you will regret it. RATING: 10/10!
