Igby Goes Down

Click here to show this review. An important coming of age film for the new millenium, almost as good as 1967's "The Graduate". Unfortunately it's message will get lost in the wash of the 1000 channel universe and the era when movies come and go in less than two weeks. This is an incredibly dark comedy and will not appeal to the average thrill seeking filmgoers out there. K. Culkin plays a spoiled rich brat from an incredibly dysfunctional family that struggles with what he wants to be vs. What everyone else wants him to be. You never really get to like this kid but you do eventually end up feeling sorry for him. There is a lot of negativity in this film but it leaves you with some hope at the end that these characters will eventually be freed from their hypocritical, immoral and shallow existences. There are a lot of recognizable stars in the cast that really give the film a credibility it deserves. The defining point in the film is when Culkin's character exclaims "I'm drowning in a sea of *ss*oles." A great comment on the state of the world today!
