Joy

For all of those who are not aware of the topic of the story, it is Joy Mangano, a real-life American Entrepreneur who had to overcome a number of personal struggles to achieve success through the on-demand QVC/HSN world.

There are a number of things I adored about this movie. First off, Jennifer Lawrence delivers a terrific performance as a sometimes broken down woman who feels like her dreams just break down at every turn with everyone around her telling her to throw in the towel... and she does at times. Yet her persistence and absolute determined resolution to not let herself be brought down ends up making her the winner in the end. There is no doubt that the values she projects on screen are those that any great entrepreneur will need. As the movie shows, that road is not paved in glory, and is filled with landmines that have been placed decades before.

The story itself is inspiring, the acting from Jennifer is as well. Her ex-husband is equally convincing. Some other characters are not all that well defined and play sort of stereotypical roles throughout (Robert De Niro, etc.)

The movie is not without its flaws and it isn't perfect by any means but it has such a powerful moral and underlying core that really defines what an entrepreneur needs to be and how dreams are made that it is a worthy story to be brought to the screen and an inspiring one to see. In fact, I really think that David Russell did a great job with the source material and thank him for bringing this american entrepreneurship story to the big screen.
