A weak attempt to use recently captured headlines and twist them into a dark serious drama. This movie takes itself way too seriously. The are certain scenes and dialogue which are disturbing and not needed like "the ring" for example, and the depiction of the guys wife at the end which makes me think do we really need any more "chick digs bad boy" scenes in movies? The world is already twisted enough. Maybe worth seeing on DVD, but don't watch it if you are tired because you are sure to nod off. What a waste of a great cast. The T. Robbins character reminded me of an acquaintance of mine. (although this fellow should never be depicted on film for fear of his likeness spreading) Penn is definitely no "Jeff Spicoli" in this yarn. If you want to see a good Drama rent Hitchcock's 1954 Thriller "Rear Window" and watch Jimmy Stewart act strangely and get frustrated by his girlfriend played by the beautiful Grace Kelly. (Yea right, well Grace Kelly and James Stewart a couple? I don't think so but a nice fantasy anyway.)
