The first thing that really attracts you to Solace is its cast. Starting with Anthony Hopkins and going down the list to Colin Farrell, Abbie Cornish & Jeffrey Dean Morgan, there is no doubting that the cast is up to the task of delivering a good dramatic thriller. However, once the plot is unveiled, slowly with many twists and turns, the viewer gets somewhat lost in the intrigue and doesn't fully appreciate the extent to which the script was developed to make the plot interesting.
As good as the acting was and the picture perfect frames that flash throughout the movie as John Clancy's premonitions of the future, there is something limiting about how the plot was unveiled, especially with regards to the nature of the killer which is diabolically played by Colin. The ultimate climax where the killer puts Clancy in a compromising position to become something he does not wish to be is also less than convincing and fulfilling. Nevertheless, some of the acting and intrigue certainly put the movie in a watchable league but very short of something that could have been exceptional should the script and plot been processed a bit differently.
