[...] Spiderman is not a perfect movie. The music score, while being effective at times, thoroughly lacks that ever-important catchy theme song that films not as good offer, like Star Wars and Superman. And I could swear that some scenes are left out: what happened when the police surround Spidey after he foils his first major crime? How did he escape? The story jumps straight to him safely in his bedroom. And what brought about Kirsten Dunst's character's breakup with her first boyfriend--he just disappears from the film. Not only that, but she dates a total of 3 (4) men, and comes across as unfortunately not very bright; she might be aptly named 'the girl-in- the-trailer-park next-door'. There are also some unanswered questions regarding Spidey's uncle, although I hope the sequel addresses them. Also, why didn't the police ever pay any attention to Dafoe's character after the first murder? And finally, for a film that actually makes plausible the ability to 'spin a web, any size', and uses such realistic scenery and characters, why oh why did the writers just about lose the momentum by having Spidey face-off in a 'wrestling' competition? Everyone knows that the WWF is FAKE... ah, but regardless of these small flaws, Spiderman is still a gem, albeit in the rough. McQuire seems born to play this role of geek/hero, there is real chemistry between him and the... well, Kirsten Dunce [sic], and Dafoe is brilliant and disturbing as usual. The story line for the most part is clever and entertaining (you might even shed a tear) , and the action scenes are truly exciting. Great movie, don't miss it... 8.
