An awful wreck of a film. Uninspiring when it attempt to be, anti climactic when it should be at its most thrilling, nothing about this film is as it should be or impact-full as it was intended to. Mark is obviously the central character with everyone else just passing by. His relationship with his mother is unconvincing despite a real acting class by Jessica Lange. His love interest seems simply put in there to fill in some blank space. The degeneracy of his gambling is hard to watch especially at a time where more people fall to its grips. In fact a character piece around a gambler persona could have worked really well but this attempt at a tour the force without convincing relatable characters feels like a completely missed effort. The best part of the movie was to me the soundtrack. It certainly doesn't have the hallmarks of a blockbuster. The script is sort of a shambles of sort going from one side story to another never really staying long enough to develop that storyline. The countdown is to due day is similarly extremely anti climactic. It's a shame for Rupert Wyatt, Planet of the Apes and The Escapist where both great films. This does not feel like a worthy part of his filmography.
