    7

Hmmm... I'm waffling between giving a 7 or an 8 for this movie. Maybe I'll decide by the end of this review. Aniston delivered a very restrained performance, which is entirely fitting for her repressed character. I think she did a fine job in the role. Gyllenhaal was also good as the mysterious and disturbed Holden. He can say a lot with those expressive eyes. The supporting cast was outstanding, which is important in a film such as this - one that focuses on character over plot. It's interesting to note that none of the characters are especially likeable. And while we may not agree with some of the choices they make, the flaws in character make them seem like real, true-to-life people. They make wrong decisions and live with the consequences. I think that's what I admire most about the film; it's not the standard fluff that we find too much of these days. On the down side, it does move along slowly, but I suppose that's part of its small town charm.
