Click here to show this review. My first reaction to this Film (before I saw it) was "Oh no, not another Holocaust Movie." After seeing it, I realized that although the subject matter is something many people are already familiar with, it has never been presented in this skillful way. That being said, this Film does present a few flaws in it's storytelling and cinematography. Specifically some of the violent scenes are extremely graphic and I'm undecided whether they needed to be included in this film. I also wish that this Film would have included a more thorough depiction of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, perhaps this was to be included in the film but was edited out for time. I also question some of the scenes in the City which were intended to contrast the "free" part of the City with the walled off "Ghetto" portion. Without spoiling it for others, some scenes which depicted the "free" part of the City were pretty hard to believe considering there was a War going on. Some important concepts about Humanity are explored in this Film which I haven't seen in other Movies of this genre. Ideas which include both sides of the equation, the Nazis and the persecuted. For this reason alone, I highly recommend this Film. It does not delve into the German psyche as deeply as say "Das Boot" did but at least it attempts to portray one Nazi as being a Human being. Overall I really liked this Movie, the message kind of grows on you a few days after you see the Film. It is very thought provoking and should be a "must see" especially for the younger generation.
