The Visit

Wow, I did NOT see that coming! After three atrocious excuses for "movies", M. Night Shyamalan has returned with a bang with The Visit! The movie really surprised me in almost every way.

The acting is awesome. The two kids were surprisingly great, especially the boy character. He is constantly hilarious and they have a realistic relationship. The grandparents are also suitably creepy, and the grandmother character was occasionally very unnerving.

I laughed a lot while watching The Visit! The humour was smart and constant, making it one of the better "comedies" to come out this year! There were also some genuinely touching dramatic moments that seemed to come out of nowhere!

The Visit never really "scared" me. Did it creep me out? Yeah. Was it suspenseful? Hell yes! But it never scared me. Some jump-scares were lazy and dumb and there were some "creepy" moments that had me laughing out loud. However, there are some scenes that had me on the edge of my seat!

The plot is interesting, and the big reveal at the end actually surprised me! I didn't see it coming at all! The plot slows down occasionally, but it does pick back up.

The reason I took off 1.5 stars is that the third act gets completely ridiculous at one point. It went from a good blend of humour and suspense to a total mess. However, the ending was good.

Overall, The Visit is a return to form for M. Night Shyamalan! It isn't a perfect movie, but it is an incredible time at the movies! See it!
