While this movie is better than "The Gallows", it is certainly not worth much much more. It seems that M. NIGHT is trying to entice the viewers into something that is surprising. The Visit, very much like The Village, is ultimately a poorly executed disaster. It's one thing to really lay out the foundation to really entrap the viewer into a vision that will be shattered by surprises and revelations, it's another thing altogether to ultimately disappoint them so fully that they will never want to see your movies again. Although the children do have their charm, the story itself doesn't really hold much water nor is it really believable nor does it even come as a surprise by the time the mystery is actually revealed, it's been suggested to the viewer all along. The thing is, the journey to get to that surprise is so long and boring that you really feel as though M NIGHT just wasted your time. If only the revelation was surprising. It wasn't. I'd avoid it as it really isn't a horror movie at all, nor is it a drama, it's just a plain old low budget horror want to be that failed drastically.
