Troy

Here is the defining critique you've waited for: first, this is a must-see film, and remarkably underrated at 7.6 on this site. Clearly, intelligence isn't a prerequisite for voting; secondly, with the exception of a few discrepancies from Homer's version (most likely to 'frame' the movie more efficently), much of the history is accurate. Thirdly, the battle scenes are epic, and the cinematography mind-blowing. Yet the fighting is interwoven with the ebb and flow of romance and politics, so you have time to recuperate. And fourth, the acting is fantastic--especially the fellow who plays Hector, and O'Toole, at times. Brad Pitt, whom I've tried to dislike based on his physical perfection and marriage to my future-ex-wife Aniston, gives a seamless performance, showing he isn't just a pretty face. Finally, the movie had such an effect upon me that I spent two days researching the real Troy (Ilium), which can be found in Turkey. On the seventh archaelogical 'level'(Troy has 9 levels in total)they've found skeletons of Trojan warriors still in helmet, arrowheads in the streets, and sling balls still left in piles. This story REALLY happened. My only wish is that the movie had included the Amazons (freakishly tall women warriors) who helped Troy defend against the Greeks. But that is small pickins; all in all, an excellent and exciting film.
