One of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. Maria Bonnevie plays a very strong willed and self-reliant woman, in a time when such things were frowned upon. The story is at times shocking and bewildering. There are times of eerie silence and the atmosphere made me uncomfortable. Not a film I would watch over again unless I had to. But a unique experience nonetheless with an imperial and gorgeous Bonnevie playing against a stellar cast; Pernilla August, Gérard Depardieu, Christopher Eccleston and Mads Mikkelsen in a small role as well. Recommended if you're in the mood for an odd and brooding cinematic experience.
