    Drive

"Drive" is an over-hyped artful piece that was visually beautiful, and haunting from its grotesque violence, and unforgettable sequences. This was a very well-done picture, and the direction was incredible. I wouldn't be surprised if "Drive" wins best director in the upcoming Academy Awards because the skill that was used to present this haunting thriller made it truly unforgettable. With all of its beauty, and art," Drive" focusses a little too much on that, and therefore it tries to be a perfect film, and ultimately we get a film that tries too hard, and doesn't fail, but almost over-does everything. Even though they overdid some stuff, it didn't matter. I still absolutely adored the way they made this film, and I absolutely love the concept of a kid who drives for a living, and what he goes through throughout the duration of his dangerous driving life. The movie is a classic for that specific reason. It's concept, and what the concept delivers. Within its concept, there's something very special about this film that is unforgettable, and that is the haunting feeling it delivers from its artful sequences, and gory violence. However, even though this is a classic in its genre, it doesn't mean that it was a great film. The opening scene was the most unforgettable scene in the entire film. I was intrigued, and I was ready for what else "Drive" was going to deliver. Unfortunately, it didn't deliver much. I see the haunting factor it delivers, but I wanted more than just that. There were continuous sequences of hardly any dialog, and the characters just staring at each other. Yes, those many sequences were memorial, and visually mesmerizing, yet, those sequences are not strong enough to deliver what many critics are raving to be the best picture of the year. "Warrior," to me, was a much more powerful feature, and really provided meaning and delivered something more powerful than "Drive." Many will disagree with me, but I felt as if I wanted more from "Drive" in the end, and I also disliked where the film was going towards the end of the film. It was turning into a bloody conclusion, which made it even more haunting, and yet made it weaker as the film progressed. I didn't feel the power in the end of this film, and I did get the haunting feel to it, but for some reason this movie didn't quite connect with me as much as I wanted it to. This is really a movie that either it connects with you and you understand what it was trying to deliver, or you still felt the haunting feeling it delivered, but felt short-changed from what the film truly was in the end. I didn't hate it. I was just one of those people who didn't connect that well to it, but still understood what it was trying to deliver, and I believe it succeeded, but failed to work with me. As good as it looks, and as visually breathtaking as some of the brilliant car chase sequences are, "Drive" did leave me disappointed, yet haunted from its dark message.
