A hilarious road movie, almost in the vein of screwball comedy at times. This is a brilliantly written and acted film especially by youngster Abigail Breslin who received an Oscar Nomination for NOT SHUTTING UP and by the grandfather of Alan Arkin who is stark raving mad as he swears like a trooper. The entire dysfuntional family is on the way to California for some sort of beauty contest as things begin to happen in earnest! I simply could not stop laughing at and with all the characters, everyone of them pure gold and that includes Toni Colette and the usually mysterious, often frightening Paul Dano. This small, little film was such an enormous hit and nominated, to no one's surprise, as best Oscar film of the year.
