Peyton Place was a film much talked about way back in 1957. It is a perfect melodrama of small town life and gossip that digs deep into the hidden scandals of such places. It can be very personal at various stages especially as concerns the mother/daughter relationship in the Lana Turner household. For such a huge melodramatic film, Mark Robson raised the bar quite a bit getting excellent performances from everyone and turning in a final feature that simply caught the imagination of everyone including the Academy Awards who showered a whopping 8 Oscar nominations on the film.
