If into foreign films, French in particular, this accurate pic of the great writer Violette Leduc will satisfy you on many levels. Working ones way out of misery is one aspect of the story but her caustic relationship with the queen of French Letters and Philosophy, mistress to Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, is an entirely different dimension. I would have rated the film higher but the depiction in this feature is all rather anti-climactic teaching French Literature at U of T! It's as if I had already seen the film.
