The great honoured Akira Kurosawa, with a special Oscar to his list of awards goes back to a theme he has handled at several points in his career, that of a SAMURAI, a cunning one at that. Kurosawa creates this action drama that seems like a fairly straight forward narrative of the working mind of said samurai. Well! This tale goes into several directions building up to 'greatness' status and leaving us with an absolute powerful and totally unexpected conclusion, one that Hollywood could never concoct. If you have not experienced Kurosawa you owe it to yourself to see one of his magnificent films. He worked well into old age and one of his latter films, Ran, based on Shakespeare proves the man never lost his brilliance.
