A great film written by Budd Scholboerg who wrote ON THE WATERFRONT and directed by ELIA KAZAN who also directed WATERFRONT. This is the best performance ever given by ANDY GRIFFITH bar none, whether on television or in the movies despite the fact that he plays a perfectly hateful person, if you can believe that of Mr. Griffith. Patricia Neal is the television girl who discovers him in some hick town in Arkansas to eventually make it big, very big on radio and television. Though this film does get into the nuts and bolts of celebrity and how it can also tear you down, the film does more. The most ruthless thing about the film is how "this know it all guy" uses his network status on national television to endorse a candidate for U. S. President, not out of patriotism or idealism BUT for his own gain. The dangerous side of celebrity is well discussed and further shows how gullible hundreds of millions of Americans happen to be. This is the perfect time to see " A FACE IN THE CROWD' right during these scandalous election times of the notorious Trump/Clinton campaign of 2016. I would have voted the film higher, but I truly disliked the main character.
