In this 1945 Otto Preminger directed film ( with a little help from Ernst Lubitsch), Miss Bankhead plays Catherine the Great. It might be a diverting comedy of manners, but Tallulah Bankhead found scant praise in the six films she made in Hollywood, the only decent one being Lifeboat directed by Alfred Hitchcock. After most of the film failures, she headed back to the Broadway stage only to make one more movie, a horror thriller in the 1960's playing a religious nutcase.
