    Carmen

Definitive filming of the opera CARMEN by Georges Bizet brought to incredible life by director Francesco Rosi in one of the best adapted operas for the screen. The Spanish background and all it entails, the cigarette factory, the Lilias Pasta Tavern, The Mountain Sites, the Bull Fight Arena and so much more are brought into vivid reality. And if that is not enough the Carmen of Julia Migenes (Johnson) is a perfection of acting and singing, a true femme fatale. Domingo is electric as Don José, sheer outstanding tenor while Faith Esham has the pure soprano agility for the role of the innocent Michaela. Ruggero Raimondi, in his prime is a wonderful, blustering toreador with the perfect bass-baritone range. Not to be missed by opera lovers.
