There are only a handful of movies that portray the Native American Indian with dignity and humanity that their culture so richly deserved. In early westerns they were portrayed to be nothing more than blood thirsty savages, rapists and abductors of children and women. In Dances With Wolves they are portrayed as real people, showing a side to the American Indian not seen. Other movies that come to mind are Little Big Man and A Man Called Horse where the native American Indian is portrayed to be something more. The Indians had a culture that was based on nature and supernatural folklore. Dances With Wolves portrays them as the magnificent people that they were. The White Man came and took it all away from them, destroying their way of life, exploiting them and killing them. The winner of 7 Academy Awards and deservedly so. If you haven't seen this film please do so because you will be richly rewarded. Film making at its best.
