This 2013 documentary that was obviously released in the L. A. area in 2014 ( necessary for Oscar consideration) was a doc I knew would rise to the top of the heap. Like many, however, it saddens me that the doc on Roger Ebert was omitted. In any case, V. M. is a worthy doc that entails the life of a nanny/photographer who obviously no one knew as well as one had thought. It's simply amazing how such a "stash" of her work was found. The doc is engrossing. Obviously the credit goes to Jon Maloof and Charlie Siskel ( nephew of film critic, the late GENE SISKEL) who wrote, produced and directed this winner which is both Oscar nominated and has earned the two men a nomination as best documentarians from the prestigious Directors' Guild. Hope Ms Maier realizes in the great beyond that she is now one of the great 20th century artists. Unbelievable story.
