Great movie! One of the best I've seen all year. It balances action and tragedy well, and follows the book almost perfectly. If you liked the book you will love the movie also. The only things I didn't like was a few parts did seem to drag on for a while, and it could have picked a better time to cut off for the second film, but other than that it was very well done.

Right up there with Due date... Are you serious?

What can I say? I review movies based on their genre. I found Due Date to be a very funny comedy. Also I had WAY lower expectations for Due Date then for Harry Potter, so I was pleasantly surprised. While Harry Potter was very good it didn't blow me away. Besides, discounting a person's review based on a previous one is stupid.

I like to check in on a person's trends in reviewing movies. You are certainly entitled to rate a movie whatever way you wish, of course. Most box office movies such as Avatar or Star Wars and Potter have a following and this I believe inflates the scores. By checking previous reviews I can measure the value of the reviewer's opinion, that's all. Your rating of Due Date is about 25% higher than the norm and most reviewers indicate that it was not funny in the least. When you give a score of 8 or higher you are recommending the movie for the rest of us in some way. I also saw Potter and found it to be a very poorly made film, whether you are a fan or not. Long and slow moving. It should have been entitled, as one reviewer said "Harry goes on a camp out"

I completely see your point, and I agree fans of certain books or directors will give movies a higher rating. I also see how looking at my previous scorings would help to see if my review appeals to your tastes. As for recommending it to you, I disagree. I see it as "Based on my tastes I found this movie enjoyable," because I don't give good ratings based on whether you or anyone else will like it, but only by how I found it. Would I recommend it to you? Yes, but I don't expect you to see it the same way I do, nor do I expect you to like it. Also, I said that if you liked the books you would find this enjoyable, since this movie follows the book. If you found the book dull well then sure this movie is "Harry Goes On A Campout." It is mostly just a lead-up to the second part anyway so it's unrealistic to expect a copius amount of action, because without the info the first movie provides scores would be even lower for the second movie because nobody would get it, but you too are entitled to your opinion.

Thanks for your response. I appreciate the fact that you were open to my viewpoint. Regarding your last point, I believe that movie makers need to address the basic need of movie goers and present a package that is complete: without the notion that the viewer expects to see the rest of the movie in another installment. This movie failed miserably in this respect. It seemed to me that the purpose of the movie was to build up to the sequel and nothing more. To me this is wrong on many levels. Hollywood is gouging the unwashed public. What would be so wrong in having a four hour spectacle? This was done with "Gone With the Wind" and "The Ten Commandments"... Those movies are classics as well as multiple Academy award winners, , and were four hours long. Harry Potter went for the Money and failed to see the big picture in terms of History... In summary this recent movie was a FAIL... but made money for whomever wanted the cash.
