Interstellar

When we hear the name Christopher Nolan, we automatically have high expectations for the movie, and his recent films didn't fail to deliver. However, Interstellar was not the epic masterpiece we wanted it to be. The performances were good, and I think Jessica Chastain did the best job amongst the cast members. The music was okay, though I liked how Nolan used sound to show how quiet it actually is in space. However, sometime the soundtrack overpowered the dialogues and it was hard to understand what was being said. The movie was well directed in terms of flow and transitions, but the special effect were really poor. One would expect some nice shots of space in a science fiction movie. There were shots of the shuttle out in space that seemed like a 3D model was just placed in front of a still image. It didn't blend in properly and sometime it felt like Nolan was trying to create a 3D effect without it actually being in 3D. Plus, I watched it in Imax, which did not help the cause. Now, in terms of plot - which is mainly how we decide if we liked a movie or not - was overly ambitious. It really doesn't target the general audience because the movie goes way too deep into relativity, time and gravity without being completely accurate about them (might want to brush up on your physics class if you plan to watch it) Most people were just confused by the storyline. I feel like those who are interested in science fiction will either hate it or love it.
