    Jersey Boys

Why would Clint Eastwood direct a musical when he's never directed one? It seems most enjoyed this true tale of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, but this adaptation of the Broadway play is simply not very good. The guys seem sympathetic, their struggles as a group sort of works, but Eastwood's over-all vision does not work. I was very annoyed as many songs were played time and time again in the course of the film when so many Season' songs are available. Having seen the Broadway musical, now in its 11th year, TWICE, this film really sucks big time. The film only grossed some 48 million in North America which essentially means it was a flop! The musical on Broadway won a Tony as best Musical of the year. It's brilliant. Most musical adaptations into films generally flop in this day and age. Jersey Boys is one hell of a story THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE FLOPPED had it been in better hands.
