«As you know, l'm quite keen on comic books. Especially the ones about superheroes. I find the whole mythology surrounding superheroes fascinating. Take my favorite superhero, Superman. Not a great comic book. Not particularly well-drawn. But the mythology... The mythology is not only great, it's unique. Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is, there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent. He's weak... he's unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race. Sorta like Beatrix Kiddo and Mrs. Tommy Plimpton. » While Volume One was an exercise in style, Volume Two is more talkative, brings more depth to the characters and is filled with some of the best Quentin Tarantino's written dialogue since Pulp Fiction and the monologue above is a great exemple of that. It's not a sequel, it's a complementary film, cause in the end, there is simply one long film called Kill Bill. Its impossible to compare them both, it needs to be seen as a whole and Volume Two brings more quality to the first part. After killing Lucy Liu and Vivica A. Fox, Uma Thurman as three more people to kill, including Bill himself, she is keeping him for last. Thie one takes a more linear path but flashbacks gives us more explanations on the motivations of the characters and some twist on what actually happened. Watching Kill Bill, it feels like Tarantino always intended to make it into two volumes, with the way the first one ended and the way this one begins. There is less action this time around, less blood, still as much humor and even some nexpected emotions. The ending is quite genius in my opinion. From the first minute of the first volume we think Bill is basically an asshole but when we finally meet him, he shows so much charisma we almost hope for Uma Thurman not to kill him. That doesnt only works because of Tarantino's script, but especially because David Carradine gives an amazing performance. Uma Thurman is still strong, again she had a very physical performance in Volume One and here she shows she's in control of her character not only physically but also emotionally. In one mazing scene, The Bride is burried alive, and even if tis impossible to get out of there, she manages to do it. Thanks to a flashback showing her training everything makes sense, not only to get her out of the grave but also at the end of the movie. Quentin Tarantino goes the stylish way again, mixing black and white with colors, some split screen, using some cool tunes and on and on. Again, lots of references, again using the Sergio Leone close-up trademark and more stuff like that. Kill Bill ends up being more than just an action picture, it has real depth and even genuine emotion. It's a great piece of cinema, always entertaining and fun to watch.
