FRANKENSTEIN, though a good and clever film by James Whale, Universal (1931), went on, in its many re-incarnations, to be something so far removed from the original novel as to destroy Mary Shelley's entire brilliant thesis. It became nothing but junk horror. One must see this 1994 adaptation by Kenneth Branagh (with a brilliant cast) to appreciate the horrifying mess made by a young doctor and in turn discover Mary Shelley's thesis of a humanity that has run amuck! This is a smart film that can truly strike terror in the heart of man!
