OMG, how I love this movie, inspired by Paul Mazursky's life and those of his buddies as they decide to live the hippie life in Greenwich Village in the 1950's. Leaving home, with a protective Jewish mama like Shelley Winters is one ENORMOUS hurdle for Paul. You will positively die from laughter as Ms Winters goes into constant fits of hysterics just at the thought of her beloved son taking up the bohemian life-style with his no "good" crowd. It's absolutely astounding that Ms. Winters did not get an Oscar Nomination for one of her very best performances on screen. A whole slew of unknown actors, THEN, like Lenny Baker, Ellen Greene, Lois Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Christopher Walken. Antonio Fargas and more make the trip downtown to the village one memorable experience. Of note is the papa, the great character actor LOU JACOBI who played Ms Winters's husband in The Diary of Anne Frank. He is the typical put upon Jewish husband who tries his best... but who can combat a character in the mold of Shelley Winters! DIVINE, TRUE ENTERTAINMENT! A MUST FOR EVERYONE BUT ESPECIALLY FOR TEENS OF JEWISH LINEAGE TO SEE THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OF JEWISH KIDS FROM THE 50's. They won't believe it!
