I enjoyed this third installment of the Paranormal Activity franchise. I felt this one was very similar to "Paranormal Activity 1", in that it shares the same level of mounting tension and creepiness. I'm sorry to say that "Paranormal Activity 2" didn't capture that same flair, but it wasn't a total wash either. Anyone who likes these types of horror flicks know that you have to be open-minded and let your imagination kick in to truly appreciate the value of their authenticity. In Paranormal Activity 3 however, the same formula is used to raise that heightened alertness in scenes, especially the ones at night, through silence, pauses, and periods of nothing. The feeling of apprehension is evident as you're waiting for that ultimate scare. I couldn't for the life of me predict the next happening as I sat anxiously in my seat, but when something did occur, it always threw me off guard. There were several scenes in particular that made me jump, making my heart pound against my chest. The special effects in this film are amazing I'll tell you that. Things happen so fast that you hardly see them coming. I'll admit the plot has a good build-up, and the camera work is simple, yet spookingly effective. From the time I sat down to the time this picture was over, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It kept my full attention. As for the story itself, it clearly explains how the haunting first surfaced with a younger Katie, and her little sister Kristi. Though as we come to later discover, there is something a lot more sinister going on behind the whole ordeal, which greatly wreaks havoc on the family. The acting in this flick is amazing too, especially with the two girls. I thought they were so believable. What had me scratching my head more than anything was the movie's abrupt end. It left me hanging, just like with it's predecessors, and makes you wonder what's next. No doubt there will be a 4th one added to the mix. Personally "Paranormal Activity 1" remains a favorite of mine, but "Paranormal Activity 3" is a good addition to the series, and almost guaranteed to give you chills down your spine. Perfect flick to see for Halloween.
