Public Enemies

I thought Public Enemies was one of the better gangster movies that I have seen. Johnny Depp's portrayal of Dillinger is true to life and totally fascinating. This is one of Depp's finest performances. He really captures Dillinger's sociopathic personality. I was so deeply absorbed by this film that I felt transported into the 1930's. From the moment I saw Depp on the big screen, I thought he looked, walked, and talked the character totally. The acting was superb, and not just from Johnny, but also from Christian Bale and the entire cast. As one could clearly see, John Dillinger was portrayed as a 'risk taker' who loved living on the edge, delighted in being loved by "his public", and a caring man when his friends and lovers were in any danger. The scenery in the film was perfect and great to see the old classic Rover cars, the costumes and music, the buildings with their architecture from that era. I must say there is some great gangster action in this movie... a lot of shoot-outs and violence, but with very little swearing which surprises me. The romance element in this picture is pretty good for the most part. My only criticism is that the film is a little slow in the beginning, and drags on a little towards the end, but overall it's definitely worth it. Go see "Public Enemies" now.
