A glorious star-studded film from Stanley Kramer which was nominated for tons of Oscar in 1965 including Best Film and Director. The journey of a third rate ocean liner crosses the ocean in 1933 when Hitler is in full command of Germany and thus impacts greatly on the story. The film has several plots which evolve at the same time thus honours must be payed to the writer and director Kramer again. Vivien Leigh (her last film) Simone Signoret (Oscar Nominated), Oscar Werner (Oscar Nominated), Michael Dunn (Oscar Nominated) and a totally engrossing cast including a standout performance from Lee Marvin and the dancers of José Greco is a most pleasurable two and a half hours. I can see this film over and over again. The feature has so much to say on the troubling times including the growing resentment against Jews. A Masterpiece! My last thought is on the great Vivien Leigh who went from Scarlet O'Hara as a 26 six year old, to Blanche Du Bois in 'A Streetcar Named Desire' (What becomes of a coquette) to her tragic age legacy portrayed in 'Ship of Fools'. What an Actor she was!
