A young Chinese girl must travel and live in Europe where her grandmother once lived. Very touching premise!
Aside the several Chinese kung fu movies and other movies of fantasy with incredible action, the Chinese make almost-mind-boggling sensitive films concerning family and life situations that are amazingly realistic, that can be lovingly tender, yet harsh at the same time. It is what is known as the HUMAN CONDITION. SOMEWHERE is an example of this kind of film though it is funny in parts yet with obvious sadness with adorable family interconnections of a beautiful nature. My wife was so moved by this film that she cried at its relevance. The present/past situation of a family member now living in Prague, I believe it is, creates this marvelous interconnection that one rarely sees in HOLLYWOOD MOVIES whose main aim is to make money, thus all the garbage we get from that film industry. The acting is quite good in 'Somewhere', but the young handsome lad Kim falls for is yet a bit too green to give an outstanding performance. But the film is quite the marvel.
