    Spotlight

Spotlight just won the best picture award at the Oscars. Did it deserve this award? I don't think so. The movie is about a group of Boston reporters who are investigating the sins of the catholic church. It's very serious stuff and is well acted and well made but it terms of entertainment it just didn't hit the mark and that is primarily because of the subject matter. True life stories do well at awards time but they are not the kind of movies that people flock to see. Mad Max, in my opinion, should have won the award simply because of its power and awe and intensity. But these two movies are worlds apart. Spotlight doesn't have anything new to say about what's been going on in the church. The problem has existed for years. The movie sheds light on that but the truth, no matter how vile, doesn't always make for a good time at the movies.
