Being a big fan of the Star Trek world and franchise (without being a "trekkie"), I was pleasantly surprised of how well done the movie was, having had been almost positive that the characters wouldn't have anywhere near the same chemistry, or a clever dialogue as with the original TV series. The movie is a different time-line from William Shatner's character, so right off the start of the movie Kirk is a different character. This in itself is actually quite brilliant (but how else would you revamp the series without making the original fans upset).. The first half of the movie really pays homage to William Shatner's Kirk by not differing the new Kirk that much yet still developing the new Kirk distincly. In the second half of the movie I find that the jokes run a littly dry. Also, as in most Star Trek movies, there are a few logical peculiarities that almost turn the 'high-tech-future sci-fi', into 'magic-sci-fi'.
