Superman Returns was disappointing. There was definitely potential there. Brandon Routh makes a great Superman. He is able to pull off the seriousness of Superman and the goofy physical comedy of Clark Kent. He is also, as my wife pointed out, a "very good looking boy". The rest of the cast was hit and miss. Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor is fun but ultimately two-dimensional. For a super genius he is also not that smart. His diabolical plan for world conquest is ludicrous at best. He gains access to advance alien technology and come up with one of the lamest scheme from a super villain. That is the true problem with the movie; the story is dull and uninspired. The subplot with Lois Lane and her kid was not a good idea. Even the big action centerpiece is just a pale rehash of the finale from the original Superman with Christopher Reeves. If they wanted to try something different why not explore the President Lex storyline that is in the comics. My favorite part of the movie was the opening credits featuring the John Williams Superman Theme complete with super credits. What does that say for the rest of the movie?
