I wasn't going to see this movie because it didn't look like it would appeal to me. I actually had gone to the theatre to see another film, but because of a misprint giving the wrong time for the movie I wanted to see I went to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel instead because I like to see a movie from the beginning and the movie I was going to see had already been on for twenty minutes. Well , let me say I was pleasantly surprised because "TBEMH" was a first rate movie full of charm and wit about retired people from England finding out that there was more to retirement and life that met the eye in India. Full of wonderful performances by Maggie Smith, Judy Dench, John Hurt, and Dev Patel the proprietor of the hotel. Advertised as a retirement home for seniors the hotel wasn't exactly as advertised but that was what made this movie so charming. Very well done with lots of positive messages. Not recommended for children.

Loved the movie too!!! Sorry but John Hurt wasn't in it. He could have been though. Maybe you're thinking of Ronald Pickup.

You are quite correct, my mistake. It was Ronald Pickup. He reminded me of John Hurt. Nevertheless it was an excellent movie and I'm so glad that I saw it because it was full of life lessons and lots of insight and was unbelievebly joyful. I'm a great believer in things meant to be, this was one of them.
