You know, sure Jessica Alba is a pretty girl, but that can't really sell all her movies. There have been flops. So I'm really happy (and somewhat surprised) to say that this is not likely one of them. I went into this movie saying that I know the story. I know what happens. Its been done, many many times before. So what? It was unpredictable enough to be interesting, it had its own unique twist and Jessica is not a bad actress at all, not by a mile. Sure she can hone her craft to be in the leagues of Meryl Streep and I sure hope to see one day as an Oscar Contender because I think that she can get there. Regardless, this movie is nice although not great and its just what you think it is just slightly different enough to make it interesting.

Okay I looked at one of your other reviews -- "History of Violence" to get some sense of whether it was worth bothering to ask this question -- not a bad review. But that leads me back to what I wondered in the first place: what makes you think that Jessica Alba can act or even HOPE that she learns to act, especially to put her name beside Streep's? A lot of what Hollywood treats as acting is just a comparatively expressionless face -- letting the music and the setting create for the audience a sense of imagined interiority in the actor who is often no more than a setting-model. Jessica Alba strikes me as such a screen figure. I think that Natalie Portman has both talent and potential, for example, but I wouldn't rate Jessica Alba much higher than Paris Hilton, as an actress. There seems to be some public "hotness factor" which confounds the sense of talent in viewers. But if that were your problem, you would never have gotten "A History of Violence". SO what's up?
WOW, lots of time on your hands, eh?
