I've seen the first five of M. Night's films on Dvd and I really liked four of them;he appeared to be the New Master of Paranoia... the heir apparent to Rod Serling. I thought that seeing The Happening ON THE BIG SCREEN would accentuate this director's unique style but, unfortunately, I have found that it only serves to emphasis his weaknesses. Everything you need to know about this film takes place during it's first fifteen minutes; after that, there is no further significant plot or character development. If the deaths were more graphic, I would give it rating of 3, but it only deserves 2 out of 10. (I thought that there was one good line, when a mathematician says that:"People take comfort in percentages")
