    The Keys of the Kingdom

Gregory Peck's film debut as a devout priest in Keys of the Kingdom was one of the most beautiful portrayals as a Minister of Christ going about his challenging work in a world of obstacles. It brought Greg his First Oscar Nomination. He was so convincing as a Catholic Priest that many in 1944 felt the priesthood could be Gregory Peck's true calling. The black and white film tells a story of such depth, reminiscent of many of Pearl F. Buck's great novels, that this is a film one can see and enjoy over and over again. I never tire of seeing it! I must have seen KEYS at least five times! And Peck's performance is enormously instrumental for this, not to mention the feature's mega-success all during the 1944/45 season. Bing Crosby won the Oscar that year also playing a Catholic Priest, but Greg was the very personification as the Representative of Christ and my vote would have gone to him.
